Islamabad: Awami National Party senior leader Senator Haji Adeel has said that the government has contacted his party on constitutional amendments to allow dual nationality holders to become parliamentarians but the ANP didn’t agree.
Speaking to a private television on Saturday, the ANP leader said that they had met prime minister on breakfast and exchanged views of dual nationality issue. “We have told him a parliamentarian holding dual nationality is not acceptable to us,” he added.
“We won’t accept a parliament or a minister with dual nationality,” Haji Adeel said and added that they had told the president to give right of vote to overseas Pakistan but dual nationality holders could become members of the parliament after they renounced their foreign nationality.
He said that dual nationality holders could not become members of parliament in India and Afghanistan.
