New York: Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna on Monday reiterated the country’s stance over the Kashmir issue and said that Kashmir is an integral part of India and it could not be separated.
Pakistan and India have fought three wars over the Kashmir issue since after their creation in 1947. One part of the land is held by India while the other part belongs to Pakistan.
Giving a speech at UN General Assembly meeting on Monday, the Indian foreign minister said that India wanted an end to terrorism in the region and was working with its neighbours to bring peace.
“Talks are underway with Pakistan in order to improve ties between the two neighbouring countries,” Krishna said.
The Indian minister further said that cross border attacks were creating hindrances for the lasting peace in Afghanistan adding that the militants were seeking to acquire the nuclear weapons.
“Terrorism is a threat for international peace and it will not be tolerated,” he added.
People belonging to different sects are living in India, the minister said adding that inter faith harmony between the religions must be propagated.
He further added that India wanted a peaceful resolution of Palestinian issue and would support the permanent membership of Palestine in United Nations.
