Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif on Friday met disgruntled Baloch leader and Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal and discussed the issue of Balochistan.
Speaking to media after the meeting, the Baloch leader uttered bitter words about the security establishment, though he didn’t mention them by name.
He said his demands to resolve the Balochistan crisis should not be taken different from as that of former East Pakistan politician Shiekh Mujibur Rehman. “Why shouldn’t we part our ways peacefully,” he added. He said that the Baloch would not talk to Pakistan if his six points were not implemented.
Mengal said that blood of thousands of Bengalis was killed in East Pakistan and same was happening in Balochistan as the locals were being killed and their bodies were being dumped.
Mr Mengal lauded the Supreme Court of Pakistan for its efforts in resolving the missing persons’ issue. He said that the situation in Balochistan aggravated due to the elements who considered them above law.
The angry Baloch leader said that election was not priority of Baloch politicians. “Whatever is happening in Balochistan is not part of our tradition instead it is imported,” Mengal added.
“Had those, who are at the helm of affairs realized situation earlier it would not have worsened,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Nawaz Sharif held army rulers responsible for worsening situation in Balochistan. He said that he was aware of the agony Akhatr Mengal was suffering from as he himself had undergone the same situation to some extent in the past when his government was toppled and he was sent behind bars.
The former prime minister said that killing of Akbar Bugti further aggravated Balochistan situation. He criticized Pervez Musharraf for the killing of veteran Baloch leader.
