Austin, Texas: Bomb threats prompted the administration of the University of Texas at Austin and North Dakota State University to evacuate people from the scene after getting a phone call from a man who claimed to have placed bombs across campus.
“He said he was associated with al Qaeda and said the bombs would go off in about 90 minutes,” spokesman Gary Susswein.
The university, with about 51,000 students and 24,000 staff and faculty, posted an emergency alert on its website just before 10 am (local time), Reuters reported.
“Immediately evacuate ALL buildings and get as far away as possible. More information to come,” it said.
Officials also evacuated campuses at North Dakota State University in Fargo.
“NDSU is requiring all employees and students to leave campus by 10:15 am,” it said in a statement on its website.
