Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its coalition partners will meet on on Sunday (today) night to decide whether Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf should appear before the Supreme Court on August 27 in NRO implementation case or not.
The PPP is committed to defend the prime minister through thick and thin, as he is the elected chief executive of the country.
On Friday night, in a meeting of the PPP’s Core Committee, top PPP leaders other legal experts had suggested that it was not compulsory for the Prime Minister to appear before the Supreme Court at this stage. However, the committee authorised the president to take a final decision regarding the PM’s appearance before the apex judiciary.
On August 8, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had issued a contempt notice to PM Ashraf for not implementing its order directed him to appear in person before a five-judge bench on August 27 to respond to the notice.
