Moscow: A Russian aeroplane en route to Moscow from New York made an emergency landing in Iceland on Thursday after authorities got a call from an anonymous caller that there were explosives in the plane.
Icelandic police said that no explosives had been found so far after a lengthy operation, but a probe was still under way.
“There was an anonymous call saying that there was an explosive device on the plane, which was already in the air,” Aeroflot spokeswoman Irina Dannenberg said.
“The pilot took the decision to land the plane and it landed safely.”
A spokesman for Iceland’s Keflavik airport said 253 people were on board the flight from John F. Kennedy airport. A duty officer at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport, the aircraft’s destination, identified it as Aeroflot Flight 103.
Russian news agency Interfax, citing an unnamed source, said the anonymous caller said the explosives would detonate upon arrival in Moscow.
