Islamabad: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf expressed his sympathies to Iran for the casualties in the deadly earthquake in the country that killed around 180 people and injured more than 1,300.
In a condolence message to President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, Ashraf said: “Our prayers are with our brothers and sisters in Iran affected by this natural calamity.”
Ashraf offered to extend assistance to the government and people of Iran and issued directives to the concerned authorities in Pakistan to immediately establish contact with their counterparts in Iran.
“Natural calamities pose a serious challenge to all our countries,” he said. No region is immune to it. We need to develop a comprehensive strategy at the national, regional and international levels in order to deal with natural disasters”.
Two strong earthquakes struck northwest Iran earlier on Saturday, which have yet killed 180 people and injured more than 1,300.
