Miami: Jim Thome came back in Philadelphia, and Phillies and Orioles will announce the trade after both teams’ games are complete Saturday.
According to FOXSports.com, the Phillies have traded Thome to the Baltimore Orioles, while CSNPhilly.com first reported the teams were discussing a deal.
Though the team hasn’t announced anything yet, the Phillies could receive Minor League players in return.
The deal allows Thome to play regularly as Baltimore’s designated hitter, giving him regular at-bats, something that would have been impossible with Philadelphia because of a chronic back issue and his defensive liability, MLB.com reported.
In 62 at-bats this season, Thome is hitting .242 with five homers and an .854 OPS. He would be an immediate boost for the Orioles, which currently rank last in the American League East in runs scored.
