Islamabad: Pakistan’s star tennis player Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has not been given a wildcard entry from the International Tennis Federation (ITF), thereby deprived of representing Pakistan at the London 2012 Olympics.
However, Aisam’s current and former partners, Jean-Julien Rojer (Netherlands) and Rohan Bopanna (India), respectively, have earned a place in the games.
Qureshi, who will play first-round match at Wimbledon on Wednesday with his partner Rojer, failed to qualify in the Olympics on the grounds that his current rank is not under 10. His ranking is 12.
However, it was being reported that he could qualify on the basis of a wildcard entry. But amid the disagreement of Pakistan Tennis Federation and Pakistan Olympic Association that which will nominate for the wildcard spot, Qureshi suffered and failed to make an impression on the game’s central body (ITF).
Qureshi, 32, will have to wait until 2016 in order to make a bid for Olympic qualification.
