Islamabad: In a notification issued on Monday evening, senior Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), has been appointed as the deputy prime minister of the country.
Sources said that the position had been created to provide a backup for the times when the incumbent prime minsiter is not available or incapacitated.
“Pervaiz Elahi would not be authorized to use the powers of Prime Minister,” they said.
It is to be mentioned here that PML-Q just after its inclusion in the former Prime Minister Gilani’s government demanded to create a post of deputy Prime Minister, but the PPP did not pay any heed to the demand. Now after the removal of the former PM, the government has approved the demand of one of their biggest allies.
In the meanwhile the govt also issued notification regarding the appointment of six advisers to Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
The advisers include Hamid Yar Hiraj, Hassan Leghari, Syed Qasim Shah, Sheraz Nazir, Naseer Khan Mengal and Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed Ranjha.
