Islamabad: A three member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan resumed the hearing of the petitions challenging the speaker’s ruling rejecting plea for disqualification of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani after his conviction on contempt of court charges.
The bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry comprises Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khiliji Arif Hussain was hearing the case.
Ifan Qadir, the Attorney General of Pakistan, submitted the resolution — approved by the parliament to support speaker’s ruling– to the bench during his arguments. He said that the speaker was a representative of whole nation.
“There should not be any confrontation between judiciary and the parliament,” he said in his argument.
“We respect the parliament and there is no confrontation between both the institutions,” the CJ remarked.
During hearing on Monday, Aitzaz Ahsan, counsel for the PM, concluded his arguments.
