Beirut: The head of the UN observers’ mission in Syria Maj. Gen. Robert Mood has demanded the country’s government and the activist groups to ensure the evacuation of endangered women, children, elderly and sick from the war-torn city of Homs and others disturbed areas.
He said that neither Syrian troops nor rebels were willing to hold their fire to allow them to leave, particularly from Homs, adding UN efforts to evacuate civilians from Homs had so far failed, AP reported.
