Hama: Another Houla-like massacre is witnessed in Syria and there are reports that around 100 people have been killed, including many children and women in Syria’s central Hama province.
The opposition Syrian National Council says pro-government forces are to blame for this new massacre.
“We have 100 deaths in the village of Al-Kubeir, among them 20 women and 20 children,” AFP quoted Mohammed Sermini, spokesman for the exiled opposition coalition, as saying.
Other sources reported that a “massacre” had taken place in the same area, including opposition activists and the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tentatively put the number of dead at 87.
Pro-regime shabiha militia armed with guns and knives carried out the killings at a farm after shelling by regular troops, the Observatory said in a statement.
“What is certain is that dozens of people died, including women and children,” said the Observatory’s Rami Abdel Rahman.
Both Mr Sermini and the Observatory urged UN observers to immediately head to the region to investigate what they said was the latest atrocity in Syria’s 15-month uprising against Mr Assad’s embattled regime.
