Washington: The US Department of State will host TechCamp Lima at the National School of Business in Lima, Peru.
TechCamp Lima is the tenth TechCamp supporting Secretary Clinton’s Civil Society 2.0, an initiative which builds the digital literacy of civil society organizations around the world, said a press release issued by the US Department of State.
TechCamp, a key program of Civil Society 2.0, is a two-day training event through which the Department of State pairs leaders in the technology community with civil society organizations to provide training, resources, and assistance that enable civil society organizations to harness the latest connection technologies to build their capacity and advance their missions.
TechCamp Lima will pair more than 50 civil society leaders and representatives from Peru with top technology experts to get hands on training in skills and concepts including mobile application development, open data, online language learning, and more.
TechCamp Lima follows the 6th Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia, with the theme of “Democracia Intercultural,” or Intercultural Democracy.
As Secretary Clinton noted at the Summit of Americas Civil Society meeting: “A democratic society is like a three-legged stool. One leg must be responsible, accountable government. The second leg must be a private sector that creates jobs and opportunities for people. And the third leg must be a robust civil society that speaks up on behalf of those who may not be able to speak for themselves – those living in poverty, those working without the protections of good conditions for their labor, those who are lacking social status or education.”
The goal of the TechCamp programs is to provide civil society with the tools to meet those challenges.
TechCamp Lima will enable these civil society groups to use connection technologies to better engage their audiences, communicate efficiently and keep pace with the changing world. It is the third TechCamp in the Western Hemisphere following events in Uruguay and Chile.
