Karachi: Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik tried to boost the morale of Karachi police on Saturday, terming it the number one police of Pakistan.
While talking to the media at the Karachi Police Centre, Malik said initially a full-scale operation in Lyari was not intended, but police was only trying to capture criminal elements.
He said that police faced intense backlash by the criminals in the area and steel bullets and rockets were used against police.
He said that al Qaeda along with Taliban, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Sipah sahaba and Baloch Liberation Army were present in the crisis-stricken area.
He said innocent people did not have aircraft guns and rocket launchers at their homes. He added that police did not have rocket launchers and hand grenades.
He said it was high time the criminals should surrender otherwise banned People’s Amn Committee would be responsible for the collateral damage in t he area.
He said police were not reluctant to enter any area of the city including no-go areas, adding he would reveal all the names of the criminals leading in Lyari.
Talking about Sharif brothers, he said he would public their corruption. He accused Nawaz Sharif of being friends with criminal elements like Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.
