Birmingham: Birmingham locals say ‘Yes to Labour; No to Mayors’ in local elections in Birmingham at ward level.
Labour’s dominance became evident winning 29 of the 40 seats up for election and unseating leading figures in the Conservative and Liberal Democratic coalition including Lib Dem’s Martin Mullaney and Ayoub Khan and Conservatives’ Les Lawrence.
Labour candidates took an average of 51 percent of the votes across the city’s 40 wards. The Conservatives got 24 percent of votes, Liberal Democrats took 16 percent, Greens just under 5 percent and UKIP only managed 2 percent. Labour won 29 of the 40 seats, the Conservatives took 7 and the Liberal Democrats held on to 4.
The new council in Birmingham is made up:
Labour 77
Conservatives 28
Lib Dem 15
Which means the Leader of the Labour group, Albert Bore, has a majority of 34.
Though voting has not announced yet but regarding the decision for having mayor, it is almost clear not that ‘No to a Mayor’ campaign has won.
