Kabul: US President Barack Obama said on Wednesday all military operations would be handed over to Afghan forces next year and no permanent US military bases would be established in the country.
While talking to press conference in Bagram Air Base, he said US would support Afghanistan according to strategic pact signed earlier and added that terrorists’ safe haven would not be tolerated anywhere.
He said that after 10-year war, a clear defeat to al Qaeda was in the offing and inevitable, and offered Taliban to resolve issue through dialogue.
While talking about Pakistan role in the elimination of terrorism from the region, the president said that Pakistan’s role could not be neglected in resolving Afghanistan issue. US respected Pakistan’s sovereignty, Obama said.
He said the according to the bilateral accord with Afghanistan, US would support Afghanistan people if they stood up. He said the 10,000 troops would soon be departed from the region and there would be a logical end to this whole Afghan episode. He asserted that the Democrats had a clear timeline to put an end to the Afghan war.
On the other hand Obama said that more than half of the soldiers have left Iraq.
