New York: American officials and outside analysts are of the view that chances of war between the West and Iran over nuclear programme have significantly decreased, New York Times reported.
According to analysts, there are conflicts among the Israel’s civilian, military and intelligence officials. On the other hand, White House is also reluctant to indulge in any such conflict ahead of general elections.
“I do think the temperature has cooled,” an Obama administration official said.
“While there isn’t an agreement between the U.S. and Israel on how much time, there is an agreement that there is some time to give diplomacy a chance,” said Dennis B. Ross, who previously handled Iran policy for the Obama administration.
“So I think right now you have a focus on the negotiations,” he added. “It doesn’t mean the threat of using force goes away, but it lies behind the diplomacy.”
There has been a significant change in American view regarding Iran after the talks two weeks earlier in Istanbul between US, Iran and other world powers.
At the same time Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration has been censured by public and former and current military and intelligence officials over the wisdom of attacking Iran.
But some analysts warned that the Iran crisis could spark up again if there was not much progress at the Baghdad talks that are going to be held next month.
