Islamabad:United Nations has decided to support all the initiatives aimed at empowering women which will help reduce poverty in Pakistan, a senior official said Sunday.
Speaking to women entrepreneurs, Ms Inez Wijngaarde, Senior Industrial Development Officer, UNIDO Head Quarters, Vienna lauded the initiatives of at Islamabad Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) saying these moves are sending very positive signals around the world.
Wijngaarde, who is currently visiting Pakistan to review women empowerment initiatives said economic opportunities must be expanded for women for improving over quality of life of people.
We aim at strengthening entrepreneurial and technical skills of women so that they can become more competitive, she said.
Shahina Waheed, National Programme Coordinator UNIDO said that we are striving to enable disadvantaged groups to seize economic opportunities and become architects of their new lives.
At the occasion, Samina Fazil, founder President IWCCI said that women entrepreneurs should link them to development.
“You should not focus on problems but solutions, try innovation and add value to your products,” she advised
Samina demanded of the UNIDO to initiate more efforts to enable women develop a positive attitude towards entrepreneurship, business and self.
Malik Sohail, Chairman Media FPCCI said that the Apex chamber will extend all the support to women so that they can become successful in life and businesses.
National business leaders Tariq Sayeed, Iftikhar Ali Malik and President FPCCI Haji Fazal Kadir Sherani are very concerned about women empowerment in Pakistan, he said.
They have decided to visit all the women chambers personally to know their issues and take steps for resolution, he informed.
We will leave no stone unturned to transfer skills and technologies to assist women, said Sohail adding that strengthening of the economy is tied to contribution of women who are being provided guidelines and access to financial resources.
The economic situation calls for greater roles of women who constitute 52 per cent of the population but are generally ignored, he said.
Policymakers need to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of women and undertake plans to provide equal opportunities to women, Samina Fazil concluded.
