Karachi: The Karachiites are suffering as the transporters kept their vehicles off the road following a one-day wheel-jam strike against recent hike in oil and compressed natural gas (CNG) prices.
The strike left commuters, students and workers stranded on roads. Large crowds were seen at bus stops, and people paid much higher fare to taxicabs and auto-rickshaws to reach their destinations.
Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) chief Irshad Bokhari said He rejected the recent reduction in fuel prices and termed it unacceptable, demanding that the entire increase in the fuel prices be withdrawn.
He was aware of rising inflation and hardship the people were facing so he did not want a raise in fares and was just demanding withdrawal of the recent fuel price hike.
He said at the current fuel prices, it was impossible to operate public transport vehicles.
