Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister on Monday told the story of Punjab’s power woes to the second National Energy Conference hosted by him chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Others who attended also include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, chief ministers of the four provinces, finance minister and minister for water and power.
The conference is aimed at discussing the ways to steer the county out of severe energy crises haunting the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharif said that Pakistan was facing power crises and people in Punjab had come to roads in protest against the closure of industry due to unjust load shedding .
He said he didn’t want to blame anyone but being a chief executive of Punjab he had come to plead the case of Punjab.
The chief minister said that the province was punished for its sacrifices in NFC award.
The chief minister said issue of circular debt should be addressed. He said people had hopes on Bhasha dam but former president Pervez Musharraf paid only lip service over the reservoir.
He said the conference would be of no benefit if its recommendations were not implemented.
Sharif said decision on supplying gas to power plants had not been implemented.
He was of the opinion that coal should be imported for power generation, adding that gas supply should be increased for industry.
