Islamabad: Former bureaucrat Roedad Khan has claimed that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Sheikh Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and General Yahya Khan were responsible for the dismemberment of Pakistan in 1971.
Talking in a talk-show of a private TV channel, Khan claimed that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto asked him to get the National Assembly’s session convened at Dhaka by Yahya Khan postponed.
He added when he had expressed his inability to get the session postponed, Bhutto told him that was very easy, just create law and order situation in Dhaka which would lead to postponement of the session.
He held the trio of Yahya, Bhutto and Mujeeb responsible for the disintegration of Pakistan in 1971.
Regarding the memo issue, Roedad said that he knew Hussain Haqqan well and he had no credibility. However, he added, he did not know Mansoor Ijaz.
The former bureaucrat’s claim came at a time, when East Pakistan’s like situation have emerged in Balochistan and a separatist movement is being run in the province. Recently, a US Congress Committee had also held hearing on rights’ violations in the province, following which a congressmen tabled a resolution calling for right to self-determination for Baloch in US House of Representatives that had created ripples in Pakistan.
