Srinagar: At least 15 Indian soldiers were killed and 20 others went missing due to two massive avalanches in snowbound regions of Indian-controlled Kashmir on Thursday.
According to foreign media reports, two avalanches hit camps of Indian forces in mountainous areas of Sonamarg and Dawar areas of Indian occupied Kashmir.
Rescue officials said that the rescue operation was difficult in the area due to severe weather conditions.
Avalanches and landslides are common in the Himalayan region, sometimes hitting military posts and army training centers and killing scores of soldiers.
