Islamabad: Express 24/7, Pakistan’s only 24-hour English news channel, decided to shut down on Monday night after three years of transmission, according to media reports.
Express 24/7 CEO Sultan Lakhani, citing revenue drop as the reason for the closure of the channel, blamed a dismal economic environment, coupled with a lack of advertising support which resulted in dwindling revenues thereby making it financially untenable to continue airing the English language channel.
Express 24/7 was an English language television news channel based in Pakistan. Its headquarters were located in Lahore, Pakistan. The channel was owned by the Lakson Group which also owns its sister channel Express News and newspaper Daily Express and The Express Tribune. Express 24/7 was the second English-language television channel to be established in Pakistan, with Dawn News being the first. After Dawn News shifted to Urdu broadcasts in February 2010, Express 24/7 remained the only 24 hour English-language news channel in Pakistan till it’s closure.
