Islamabad: A global survey shows that the world is divided into three groups on the issue of generating electricity through nuclear plants: strong pros (29%); Mild Pros (32%) and strong opponents (23%).
The global survey was conducted in 23 countries across the globe covering Europe, Americas, Asia and Africa.
The global sample comprised 23,231 men and women, as well as those belonging to various age, income, education and linguistics groups.
The respondents were given three statements (reproduced below) and asked; “Which statement best reflects your view of the generation of electricity using nuclear reactors?”
Responding to this, 32% of the respondents said that the only those nuclear plants should be used that already exists and new plants should not be built; 23% of the respondents think of nuclear power as dangerous and are of the opinion that they should be closed as soon as possible where as 29% of the respondents believe that nuclear power is relatively safe and an important source of electricity therefore new nuclear power plants should be built. However 16% did not give a view.
