Brussels: Nato Chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen has expressed regret over the Nato strike that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.
Rasmussen on Sunday said he had written to Pakistan premier Yousuf Raza Gilani to express regret over the “tragic, unintended” deaths of Pakistani soldiers.
He said that the deaths of Pakistani personnel were as unacceptable and deplorable as the deaths of Afghan and international personnel. He said that the incident was a tragic and unintended.
On Saturday, US led Nato troops killed at least 24 Pakistani security officials, including two officers and 15 others injured in an air strike on Salala check-post Pakistani troops in Mohmand tribal region near Afghan border.
Pakistan’s Defence Committee of the Cabinet had decided shut down Nato supply routes into Afghanistan with an immediate effect and also asked the US to vacate Shamsi Airbase within 15 days.
