Mandi Bahauddin: The Mother & Child Health Week campaign will begin from November 21 in the district with the aim to minimize the mortality rate of pregnant women and infants.
“The campaign will continue till Nov 26 and all officials of the Health Department and lady health workers (LHWs) will fully participate in the drive“, said DCO Amin Chaudhry when briefing a press conference.
In this respect, he said that a rally would be held at Phalia on Nov 19 to create awareness among the public. He asked health staff to make it a complete success with cooperation of the public as they did during anti dengue campaign.
He also directed EDO health to give de-worming medicines to children of the age group of 2 to 5 years and folic acid tablets to pregnant women to protect them against anemia, expressing confidence that Lady Health Workers and officials of health department would celebrate the Mother & Child
Health Week with a sense of responsibility and service to humanity. He urged upon the mothers to breast feed their newly born child up to a minimum of six months instead of any substitute.
He also asked EDO Health to vaccinate Anti-tetanus injection to pregnant women and distribute ORS packets for saving children from diarrhea. He said a healthy mother is essential for a healthy society and this message should be conveyed to every nook and corner of the district.
He directed EDO Education to create awareness about mother and child health week through school teachers and students in every locality of the district. He also urged Imams of all mosques to announce about the importance of the campaign on loudspeakers requesting the mothers to get their children de-worming medicines from medical staff teams during the campaign.
Dr Khalid Ranjha, in charge campaign, when briefing said there were 86235 children of two years age while 29329 children are up to five years age, registered with the department. He said to achieve objectives of the campaign he had formed 1289 teams and 85 fixed teams that would work under supervision of EDO and other medical officers of the district.
