Thatta: At least 22 people including women and children have been killed in a head-on collision between two passenger vehicles near Thatta district of Sindh on Sunday, official and rescue sources said.
According to detail, a bus and a van carrying at least 90 to 95 passengers collided head-on near Gajjo area of Thatta.
While SSP – Senior Superintendent of Police –  Thatta said that the van hit the bus from back side.
He also said that all the passengers traveling in the van have died.
The bus was moving towards Shah Aqia from Karachi while the van was moving towards Karachi from Badin.
Deputy Commissioner Thatta Jaffar Abbasi said that at 20 people were killed while 26 other injured in the deadly accident.
While Sindh Health Minister Dr Sahgeer Ahmed said that 14 bodies and 12 injured have been so far brought to Civil Hospital Thatta while five critical injured have been moved to Karachi hospitals for treatment.
He imposed medical emergency in the Civil Hospital Thatta.
Edhi Foundation spokesman said that at least 17 people have been killed in the accident.
Reports say that several bodies were still trapped in the pressed van.
Rescues workers are facing difficulties in the operation because of darkness.
Rescues and Hospital sources said that number of casualties may increase as several injured were in critical condition.
The accident had caused a severe traffic jam on the busy National Highway, sources added.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishart-ul-Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah took the notice of the tragic accident.
They ordered relevant officials to reach the spot with immediate effect and provide all possible facilities to the injured.
