Perth/Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday accused the main opposition party of trying to derail democracy in the country.
Addressing Pakistani expats in Perth, Australia during a ceremony, the prime minister leveled serious allegation against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of trying to derail and end democracy.
As the political temperature back in Pakistan has heightened after the PML-N ‘Go Zardari Go’ rally in Lahore, the prime minister said that Sharif brothers had learnt nothing from exile and imprisonment.
Rubbishing the PML-N leadership demand from Zardari and government to call it a day, Gilani said that neither the government would resign nor it could not be removed through rallies, public meetings and sloganeering of ‘Go Go’. He claimed that the politics of protest and demonstration would yield no result.
He questioned the PML-N leadership why it did not stage sit-in when its government was removed by a military dictator in 1999.
He vowed that the democratic government would strengthen all institutions, saying that general elections would be held as per the schedule.
The prime minister asked the opposition to wait till the general elections.
