Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has congratulated the nation on Pakistan’s election to a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for a two-year term. Pakistan will assume its seat on the Security Council from 01 January 2012.
Pakistan’s election with a two-third majority of votes in the United Nations General Assembly reflects the importance and respect that Pakistan enjoys in the international community. Pakistan will take its seat on the UN Security Council at a time when the world in general and our extended region in particular is witnessing developments of far reaching implications.
She said that as in the past, Pakistan will play its constructive role in the UN Security Council for the maintenance of international peace and security.
She thanked the international community for reposing trust in Pakistan.
Khar also congratulated the Foreign Office and Pakistan’s Permanent Mission in New York for their hard work in projecting Pakistan’s constructive role in the world.
