Lahore/Islamabad: The top officials of Pakistan remain busy these days trying to mend relations with the United States government, but the forces opposed to the country’s relations with America remain busy fueling the passions of their countrymen against this relationship.
The participation in Islami Jamiat Talaba’s All Pakistan Student Convention by thousands of students has cheered up the leadership of the student organization as well as its ideological parent Jamat-e-Islami. But the liberal forces of the country say this shows the increasing strength of those who want to impose an Islamic system of governance in this country.
The prominent feature of the convention is the use of latest technology by Jamiat as the event is being shown live on internet.
The other prominent thing are the slogans that are attractive to Pakistani youth and has induced commercial organisations to use them because they are motivating for youngsters of the country who want to see Pakistan as an independent and progressing nation.
A survey is being carried out during the convention about the Higher Education Commission, whose fate hangs in balance since the devolution of education to provinces. Eighty percent of the students who have participated in the survey have said that HEC should be restored. Eighteen percent have opposed its restoration. Two percent have expressed ignorance about the issue.
Waqas Alam, an expert of mass communication and human psychology, told The News Tribe correspondent that the use of latest technology and psychological tools by the right-wing parties can lead to a major change in the Pakistani society, which has rejected these forces in almost all the elections held in the country since its independence.
Abdul Rashid, nazim of Islami Jamiat Talaba, said they used the slogan “Let’s be a hope in ourselves and build Pakistan” because Pakistani youngsters want to bring a positive change in the country. “Today’s Pakistani youngster wants change, but he does not want the change to be imposed from outside.”
The event includes programmes such as leadership festival, book fair, international youth expo–all themes that are used by the corporate sector to lure consumers.
Besides Pakistani students, the convention has brought together Muslim youngsters from China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Afghanistan and Kazakhstan.
