Karachi: A Telenor video has been blocked recently on copyrights grounds by the Youtube management on the objection of AgencyGlobal.
Telenor uploaded on 24 February an official djuice video titled “Khamoshi Ka Boycott – (message for Pakistan)” which contains footage of campaign and its philosophy of the theme.
According to Telecomrecorder, a telecom blog, initially it was disabled for comments, but later comments were allowed. Visitors criticized harshly the frequent use of slang word by the Telenor high officials and on the stealing or embedding of content in the video.
The blog said Telenor did not remove the video despite receiving harsh criticism. Its officials came up with a clarification of other objections about embedding or stealing of video content from other videos.
Affan Haider, Telenor Official of Corporate Communication Department, earlier in an interview to Telecom Recorder said that the copied and embedded content in the video was not a violation of copyright because it is not used for commercial purpose but for social reforming drive.
“The user of slang word is unfortunate because it is a bad tool in a good thing,” he said and affirmed that “a few scenes of the video have been copied, but it does not infringe the laws of copyright because it was not used for commercial purpose.”
Telenor did not make changes in the video or reproduce it but just copied the content of an original video, Telecom Recorder said.
AgencyGlobal is a UK-based company, which raised objection with the Youtube. The video was blocked as an infringement of copyright laws.
Agency Global is an integrated media and entertainment company involved in artist management, music recording, film/video production, publishing, event management, show coordination and PR/marketing.
Telecom Recorder said Telenor has been running a social reform drive, but it is involved in plagiarism itself, which is an intellectual crime, even bigger than cheating that it highlighted in its Khamooshi ka Boycott drive.
Telecom Recorder said Telenor Pakistan officials should think that they disgraced the country with such an unethical act for cheap popularity. They should have cared at least about the country’s reputation instead of promotion of their own brands, it added.
