Islamabad: After consultation with Law Ministry and legal experts, Aiwan-e-Sadr (President House) has issued the notification of the appointment of Zaka Ashraf as Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
However, Zaka’s tenure has not been mentioned in the notification, which was issued on late Thursday after three days. President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also Chief Patron of PCB, appointed Ashraf as Chairman of the board on October, 11 in place of Ijaz Butt whose three years tenure was completed on October 8.
Source said that the legal experts advised the presidency that Ashraf would quit his responsibilities as President of ZTBL before assuming the charge of his new appointment.
The reason for not issuing the notification so far, that the officer of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) had filed a writ petition in the court against Ashraf that he as the President of the bank embezzled the funds, which might be recovered from him and his new appointment as Chairman of PCB might be declared null and void.
The sources told that the tenure of Ashraf as ZTBL President was completed on 3rd September this year, however, the Finance Ministry issued a notification on September 28 in which he was asked to continue his services.
Presidential Spokesman, Farhatullah Babar has also confirmed that the notification of Ashraf appointment as the PCB Chairman has been issued. He said that Zaka Ashraf would assume the offices from the day when he leaves the ZTBL post.
