London: Member of the European Parliament and Conservative Legal Affairs Spokesperson Sajjad Karim hosted an event at the European Parliament on Tuesday to highlight the appalling human rights abuses in Kashmir.
The event entitled “Beauty of Kashmir, Preserved Past, Bruised Present” sought to draw attention to the atrocities in the region and spread awareness of the Kashmiri struggle through literature and photos.
Karim, who was rapporteur for the EU-India Free Trade Agreement which was adopted in 2009 and successfully implemented the inclusion of the Human Rights and Democracy clause, said the unresolved dispute over Kashmir has resulted in immense human rights abuses. The future of Kashmir and the resolution of this issue is significantly dependent on the EU’s future policy towards South Asia, he stressed.
