Washington: Former president Pervez Musharraf has agreed with the US lawmakers that Pakistan must clarify and demystify as to why it is not acting against the “Haqqani network” in North Waziristan.
He said that no one including the Haqqani network should be allowed to use Pakistan as a launching pad to plan and conduct terrorist’s attacks and operations against coalition forces in Afghanistan.
The former President warned that dubbing the present government as dysfunctional by the US lawmakers and casting aspersions on the intention and resolve of the Pakistan Army and ISI to fight extremism and terrorism is misplaced and is damaging the global efforts to win the war against terrorism.
He expressed these views during his visit to Washington, DC where he met senior leaders in the Congress and Senate, including Minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, Chairman of Armed Services Committee, Senator Carl Levin, Ranking member foreign relations, Senator Richard Lugar, Ranking member Intelligence committee, Senator Saxby Chambliss, member Armed services, Senator Lindsay Graham, and Senator John McCain.
The former President asked that the United States to address the concerns of Pakistan related to security and stability in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of US combat forces in 2014.
The former President also demanded that the United States must intervene to check the rapidly increasing anti-Pakistan influence of India in Afghanistan.
