Rawalpindi: Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee of Pakistan General Khalid Shamim Wynne has deferred his scheduled visit to Canada owing to the ongoing security situation of the country.
It is also said that General Wynne – after attending the emergency meeting of Corps Commander Conference under the chair of Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani on Sunday – cancelled his tour to Canada owing to severe allegations leveled by US top military brass against Pakistan’s main intelligence agency ISI.
Earlier, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) met with an American General James N. Mattis Commander of the US CENTCOM to address “irritants” in Pakistan-US relations.
“Both leaders discussed various matters of mutual interests and emerging geo – strategic situation in the region,” said a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relation department of the military.
The CJCSC “expressed his concern about the negative statements emanating from US. He stressed upon addressing the irritants in the relationship which are a result of an extremely complex situation,” it said.
Gen. Waynne reiterated that Pakistan armed forces are committed to achieving enduring peace in the region and added that peace would only be possible through “mutual trust and cooperation.”
Earlier, U.S embassy in Islamabad issued a statement on the same meeting and said Gen. Mattis acknowledged sacrifices rendered by Pakistani troops in the war against terror.
The U.S statement marked a difference with recent diatribes from Adm. Mike Mullen, who accused Pakistan of orchestrating attack on U.S. embassy in Kabul.
Gen. Mattis also held meeting with army chief Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Saturday.
