Islamabad: Expressing reservations on annoying American assertions, Pakistan Army on Sunday has decided to retaliate to misadventures or incursions from across the border to protect and secure of the country’s borders.
According to defense sources, Corps Commanders convened for an emergency meeting on Sunday under Chief of Army Staff Geeral Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani to review security situation in the wake of the American threats and accusations.
Underlining Pakistan Army’s professional preparedness and capacity to defend the country’s territories against any foreign intrusion, be that from the US, the meeting observed that continuation of partnership was in mutual interest of the two countries.
The sources told that the army top-brass desired the temperature of Pak-US ties to be lowered. “The partner that caused an abnormal rise in the temperature of relations, should do more to cool the situation down,” they asserted.
The sources said that army leadership in its emergency meeting decided to move as per its purview of security and protection of borders against any foreign incursion, even some so called hot pursuit by the US forces in Afghanistan. The meeting seconded Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani’s assertion that “we cannot protect US troops in Kabul.”
The sources said that the ground realities clearly suggest that the American allegations were not based on facts. On the other hand, they added, “we have logical complaints of incursions from Afghanistan having ISAF support.” However, the sources rushed to add that Pakistan was not pointing out these complaints in media only to save US from embarrassments.
According to the sources, the meeting of the army leadership also seconded Prime Minister’s proposal to the Americans to increase interactions in order to remove misunderstandings. However, the sources were of the view that the partnership between any two countries could work only on the basis of mutual respect. “And every country was independent in taking decisions in its interest,” the sources maintained quoting discussion in the Corps Commanders’ meeting.
The sources told Online that the army leadership has decided to keep its focus on the Western borders, too, as it has been keeping Eastern borders with historic rival India under strict vigil.
