RAWALPINDI: Pakistan has shown the commitment seriousness by giving lot of sacrifices in the war against terrorism. International support would help to get desired results.
This was said by Pakistan Defence Minister, Chaudhary Ahmed Mukhtar, while talking to a four-member delegation led by US Senator Robert Patrick Casey, which called on him at his office here on Thursday.
The minister highlighted significant role of Pakistan and its armed forces in the war on terror. He reiterated that ongoing war would be taken to its logical conclusion, for which international support in military and monetary terms to Pakistan will help create desired effects. He also informed the delegation about the economic loss Pakistan has suffered since start of military operations in the country after 9/11.
He said the scale of casualties faced by Pakistan is self-articulating fact, which could prove the sincerity of Pakistan during terror war. He said the country will continue her efforts until peace and normalcy prevails in Afghanistan and adjoining tribal areas.
The minister also described attempt on part of government in rehabilitation of IDPs of Swat and Mingora were also discussed. He also told the US delegation about recent initiatives to improve relations with India and fostering working relationship with all neighboring countries aimed at regional stability.
Mukhtar emphasized on the visiting senators to convince the US govt on immediate release of collation support fund (CSF) as well as military equipment committed for Pakistan armed forces to sustain the ongoing tempo and scope of military operations.
The US delegation on its part praised the contributions of Pakistan’s Govt and its military in supporting international community in Afghanistan. Joint working through mutual respect and understanding can bridge the differences, which have occurred post Raymond Davis and OBL raid.
The senators requested the minister to use his office in seeking early negotiations and solutions to the unresolved issues between the Pakistani and US administrations. Need for intelligence building, tight control and check on IEDs and operations against all terrorist networks in tribal areas were also underlined by the visiting delegation.
