Islamabad: Pakistan’s Senate standing committee on commerce has decided that oil supply to NATO in Afghanistan will be brought within legal parameters.
The committee met in Islamabad on Thursday under the chair of Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan in parliament house.
Murtaza Javed Abbasi told the committee that infrastructure at FATA had been completely damaged due to NATO tankers and commerce ministry was paying no heed to it. National Highway Authority (NHWA) receives taxes of these tankers and where they use them, he questioned.
NHWA officers told we only collect toll tax and do not receive any other tax.
Secretary commerce Zafar Mehmood told NATO containers had nothing to do with commerce ministry.
The committee decided that NATO containers are not governed by any law in Pakistan as only one MOU was signed with them. No other documents were provided by commerce ministry in this respect.
Committee directed that NATO containers be brought within legal parameter and the matter be handed over to ministry of defence.
Committee also directed government to restore NICL board as soon as possible and appoint chief of the board.
Government team in NICL case is weak, committee said adding legal team on the other side is strong.
