Islamabad: Prime Minister Pakistan Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that media and civil society had an important role to ward off evils of intolerance, terrorism, and extremism from society.
Addressing the fourth session of dialogue with nation, the PM expressed his deep concerns about rapidly evolving, negative and depressive attitude of intolerance, cautioning that obduracy in personal and ideological differences should be eschewed.
He also urged on media to help evolve social values back to their precious origins, and also expressed his gratitude to media and social workers in their full participation in general process of consensus.
He also informed that 7th NFC Awards and 18th amendment ushered in autonomy for Provinces, while federal government also devolved many ministries and departments to Provinces, which should have been done a long time ago.
The PM also expressed government’s keen desire to foster ethnic languages of The Country, but reminded that Urdu was nevertheless the mother tongue, and urged to evolve National harmony and co-existence, instead of provoking ethnic issues for personal interests and policies.
He also cited, education and health as prime concerns and priorities of the government, and said that masses were deprived of primary level education, while he assured that 18th amendment catered for mandatory education.
Affirming the government’s policy of reconciliatory politics, he expressed government’s keen desire to have dialogue with Baloch elements, and MQM.
He also said that Pakistan wanted peace with India and all neighboring countries, while there were strictly no intentions of any interference in Afghanistan.
He said that Pakistan desires a stable, peaceful and independent Afghanistan, and said that Afghan leadership’s inclusion in reconciliatory process was mandatory.
