Khairpur: At least ten tankers carrying fuel for NATO forces in Afghanistan were set on fire in Pakistan’s southern province late on Sunday, police said.
According to local police official, unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate firing on NATO tankers I Karmabad area of Khairpur city alongside National Highway, destroying 10 oil tankers and also injuring four including drivers and cleaners. The tankers were going to Afghanistan via Peshawar.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Abrar Hussain said that a group of 30 to 35 miscreants opened indiscriminate firing on the tankers and fled.
The fire also lapped up nearby shops and houses.
Fire tenders and locals were trying to put out the fire but facing severe difficulties as flames were touching sky.
Police have cordoned off the area and started search operation into the area to arrest the accused.
