Islamabad: Retirement of four lieutenant generals on the same day in coming September is likely to prompt at least an equal number of promotions and top level reshuffle in the Pakistan Army.
Sources said on Sunday that four senior army officers including the Quetta Corps were going to be retire on September 21.
According to the sources, Corps Commander Quetta Lt General Javed Zia, Chairman Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) Lt General Shujat Zamir Dar, Military Secretary to GHQ and Col Commandant Northern Light Infantry Regiment Lt General Mohsin Kamal, and Commander Army Strategic Force Command Lt General Jamil Haider would complete their service together on September 21.
Since promotion to the rank of Lt General in Pakistan Army is vacancy based, these retirements would enable promotions of four Major Generals, the sources told observing, “Transfers and postings on promotion of four Lt Generals and an equal number of Major Generals would certainly cause reasonable reshuffle in the top two-tiers of the army.”
Consequent creation of vacancies in the ranks of Major Generals would be filled up through promotion SOPs and that is the Promotion Board that promotes Brigadiers to the next rank.
