NOTTINGHAM: Stuart Broad helped England avoid a total collapse against India after they had earlier lost six wickets for just 88 runs on the first day of the second Test at Trent Bridge here on Friday.
Broad who came at number nine scored 64 runs, helping England avoid a disastrous collapse.
India at stumps were 24 for one in reply, 197 runs behind a lead. India have lost te first test match against England and are looking forward to leveling this four-match series.
India lost their opener Abhinav Mukund on the first ball of their innings when he was caught in the gully by Kevin Pietersen while playing James Anderson. Rahul Dravid, who made an unbeaten century at Lord’s, was seven not out and Venkatsai Laxman 13 not out.
Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Shanthakumaran Sreesanth of India all took three wickets each.
