Karachi is the largest city and financial hub of Pakistan. Unfortunately Karachi has been a prey of disturbance for the last many years. Target killers, to achieve their ulterior motives, keep on killing innocent people. No doubt there are certain undemocratic forces that do not want peace in the city. They shed the blood of innocent people, damage public and private properties, burn vehicles. Strikes are called for nothing. Loss of human lives and properties has been common. This situation has caused untold losses to the country.
Present democratic government is the government of the people. It is fully aware of the problems of the masses. Government has been very serious to maintain law and order in Karachi. President Asif Ali Zardari has established a precedent of Political reconciliation policy and taken all stakeholders of Karachi on board. Pakistan Peoples Party has close contacts with MQM, ANP, PML (Q) and other political and religious parties to build durable peace in Karachi on permanent basis. Sindh Rangers have been given special powers while Sindh Police have been provided latest weapons. Provincial Interior Minister Manzoor Wassan has sped up contacts with political and religious parties. The purpose of these contacts is to improve law and order situation in the financial hub of Pakistan.
Law enforcement agencies are doing their work. Dozens of target killers have been arrested and judicial proceedings have been initiated against these criminals. Number of law enforcement personnel has increased in sensitive areas of Karachi. Sindh government has initiated a comprehensive program. Peace Drive to improve law and order situation in Karachi. While telling the details of this Peace Drive Provincial Information Minister Shahrjeel Inam Memon told the media men that in view of the prevailing law and order situation in Karachi the Peoples Government had initiated ‘Peace Drive’. It is a comprehensive program that will definitely bring peace to the people of Karachi.
During this campaign members of civil society, Bar Councils, NGOs, teachers , students , religious scholars will be contacted and peace walk, seminars and talk shows will be conducted. Eminent social personalities, members of chamber of commerce, trade unions , business community and public opinion leaders will also be contacted to achieve the loftiest dream of peace in Karachi. The campaign is being launched due to the volatile situation of Karachi and will comprise walks , seminars , media campaign and interactions between the government and the political parties as well as between the government and civil society members.
The aim of the peace drive is to bring the socio-economic conditions of the city back to normal. In this peace drive white flags , banners, pamphlets and badges will be erected and distributed in all the areas of the city including markets, hospitals , schools , colleges, universities and public places. Celebrities and national heroes will also play their due role in maintaining the law and order situation through radio, film and other fields.
It is a fact that all peace loving and patriotic Pakistan want peace in Karachi and it is also their responsibility to cooperate in this regard. Because peace in Karachi means peace in Pakistan. If business activities go on in Karachi they support Pakistan. The interest of all lies in peace drive. There are certain elements who want to besiege the city. Government will establish peace in Karachi. It is also the duty of all political and religious parties and individuals as well to play their positive role in making ‘Peace Drive’ a success.
