Islamabad: The government of Pakistan is committed to withdraw Rs 190 billion subsidy on electricity and gradually putting the entire burden on the shoulders of masses.
According to a private Pakistani TV channel, subsidy worth Rs 12 billion on power to be withdrawn, in accordance with the conditions of the international monitory bodies in the next month. The likely move could add another 2 percent in power tariff.
The report quoting sources claimed that the government in accordance with the conditions of International Monitory Fund’s institutions is bound phase-wise withdraw the subsidy worth Rs 190 billion. Next month another Rs 12 billion will be withdrawn, adding 2 percent in the power tariff.
Sources further claim the circular debt stands at Rs 300 billion, whereas electricity worth Rs 131 billion is either being lost due to poor infrastructure or stolen.
