The full court meeting was attended by Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Tariq Parvez, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani. Dr Faqir Hussain, Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan and Sajid Mehmood Qazi, Additional Registrar, Supreme Court also attended the meeting.
Chief Justice welcomed the judges in the meeting. The full court meeting took stock of the present pendency position of cases at the apex Court. The Registrar informed that disposal of cases has registered remarkable increase due to continuous working of Judges even during the summer vacations.
Chief Justice appreciated the commitment and devotion of all the judges for sitting in various benches both at the principle seat and the branch registries. He appreciated the fact that due to these efforts the backlog of pending cases has been reduced by more than two thousand. This figure would have been much higher had the judges were not busy in hearing many important cases which were heard by Full Court or larger benches over a long period of time CJP said that since the restoration of the independent judiciary, public at large has attached great expectations from the judiciary to deliver.
Thus, it is imperative upon both the Bar and the Bench to leave no stone unturned to ensure quick, inexpensive and substantial justice at all levels.
The Full Court reiterated the fact that the Supreme Court will “preserve protect and defend constitution” and will always uphold the rule of law and dispense justice to all without fear and favour. The full court observed that the national salvation lies in applying the principle of rule of law and resisting any deviation from constitution under any circumstances.
Chief Justice and judges of the Supreme Court acknowledged the meritorious services rendered by Justice Javed Iqbal who is about to lay down his robes by the end of this month.
Chief Justice observed that one reason for convening the full court meeting was to acknowledge the contributions made by Justice Javed Iqbal as a judge of the Apex Court and to thank him for an outstanding career spread over many decades.
Full Court discussed the idea of introduction of law clerkship in the Supreme Court wherein young and outstanding law graduates may be offered an opportunity to work in the Court. It was decided that Justice Jawwad S Khawaja will develop the concept paper on
this idea which will be shared with other judges before final decision is taken in the next Full Court meeting. The Full Court also concluded various other matters pertaining to office administration for expediting disposal of cases to provide quick relief to aggrieved persons and decide the disputes among litigant parties.
