Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday ordered that Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) chief Tehseen Anwar be suspended and immediately arrested for defying and avoiding court orders.
The orders came during the hearing of multi-billion-rupee scam in National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) that also involves Moonis Elahi, a son of former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi. An SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhey was hearing the case.
The court summoned secretary establishment and directed that the FIA chied be suspended first and then produced before the court handcuffed.
Earlier this month , the court ordered the FIA DG to suspend departmental action against Zafar Qureshi, supervising officer of the case, but the DG instead of complying with the court orders , left for foreign visits.
