New York: A wave of record heat has hit the US and Canada with the mercury peaking at a record 42 C in New Jersey. While the temperature rose to 39 C in New York and Boston and 40 C in Philadelphia.
At least 22 deaths have occurred due to the extremely hot weather. Heat strokes and power breakdown occurred on a high scale.
The most severe heat wave in North America in the past occurred during the Great Depression of 1936 in which more than 5,000 died in the US and Canada.
