Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said a clear, corruption free and efficient judicial system is must for rule of law.
He said this while talking to a seven-member delegation of Cabinet Members of Peshawar District Bar headed by its President, Mr. Raza Ullah and consisting other office bearers and members who called on his lordship today i.e. 20.07.2011 in Supreme Court Building, Islamabad.
Extolling the services rendered by Peshawar Bar for their profession and for Rule of law in society, his lordship added that Peshawar Bar is an active, experienced, committed, professional and patriotic bar which played a vital role for the achievement of the cause of independence of judiciary, supremacy of Constitution and Rule of law in our country. Their services and scarifices will always be remembered and will be guiding the new generations to stand by the judiciary in time of need.
The delegation thanked the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan and praised the National Judicial Policy which proved fruitful for lawyers as well as litigants and enhanced the public confidence in courts by providing a speedy and expeditious disposal to them.
Further, they informed his lordship that due to the Policy, the work load on lawyers has increased and few cases are also disposed of on technical grounds due to time frame set in judicial policy. The Hon’ble Chief Justice assured them to take up the matter on platform of National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC).
Moreover, they informed his lordship that due to the steps taken by his lordship for eradication of corruption have proved productive. The ratio of corruption in District judiciary at Peshawar has decreased and about 07 officials of District judiciary have been fired due to their involvement in corrupt practices. The Hon’ble Chief Justice emphasized that we want to root out corruption from our institution because corrupt persons bring bad name for the prestigious institution.
The delegation apprised his lordship about worse law and order situation at Peshawar and showed great concern over the security of lawyers. They further informed his lordship about their problems like shifting of different courts like narcotics, anti-corruption, banking etc. in one premises in order to facilitate litigants as well as lawyers. They further told his lordship about their hardship regarding the security of lawyers, the Hon’ble Chief Justice assured them to take up the matter with concerned authorities.
The members of Bar appreciated his Lordship’s struggles and efforts. They also appreciated the taking up of suo moto action to recover plundered national wealth from the corrupt. They also discussed with the Chief Justice, issues and matters of interest of the legal/judicial fraternity. Further, they assured the Hon’ble Chief Justice of their full support and cooperation.
They expressed the hope that the administration of justice needs his bold and benign leadership and motivation to deliver justice to the public at large. They said that the public have reposed great confidence in the judiciary.
The delegation presented the Pakhtoon turban and boquet of flowers as token of respect, love and sincerity. They also invited Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan to visit Peshawar District Bar. His lordship conveyed his gratitude, extended his thanks and assured to visit them in the near future.
