Islamabad: Despite tough domestic law and order situation, low foreign investment and bad international financial position, Pakistan has achieved a target of $25.290 billion exports this year.
This is a landmark and all the people who have put in their efforts to achieve this target deserve an applause. This was stated by Senior Minister of Commerce, Makhdoom Amin Fahim. He specifically congratulated the industrialists, traders and business community of Pakistan, Ministry of Commerce, and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) without whom this target would not have been achieved.
He stated that the originally set target was 10% increase in exports ($20.011 billion). However, the target achieved for exports is 31% increase ($25.290 billion). This overshoot in target was achieved by redirecting the exports from traditional trade routes to new routes. He strongly emphasized that this achievement has proved that Pakistan has the potential to increase its exports and assured his all out support in looking for new avenues.
Senior Minister reiterated the fact that the Pakistan Peoples Party Government, under the leadership of President, Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister, Yousaf Raza Gillani is working very hard on enhancing regional trade. For this purpose, in ECO Ministerial Summit in Kabul, he has stressed upon early implementation of Economic Cooperation Organization Trade Agreement (ECOTA), which will help Pakistan find very strong regional market and increase the exports further.a
